Chelsea fans will be disappointed with their start to the season, being in tenth position is not good enough for a club who have spent approximately £857m on players under new owner, Todd Boehly. Although they have spent a lot, their injury list has been overwhelming this campaign, and it just got worse as Reece James is out again for several months. Fortunately for Chelsea fans, it's not all doom and gloom as star signing Christopher Nkunku is finally back from injury and will surely improve their attack force.
Crystal Palace have also had their fair share of injuries with important, young, talents Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze each spending time out. Thankfully, Roy Hodgson will be over the moon to having them back. Additionally, with the loss of Wilfried Zaha in the summer Palace have been struggling to convert, creating only 23 big chances all season. With Chelsea’s unpredictable defence Crystal Palace will certainly be capable of scoring, similarly to when they drew 2-2 with Man City two weeks ago.
The match is part of a 13-day period when there is at least one match on all but two of the days, at a time when many leagues around Europe take a winter break.

Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino has asked the Premier League to reassess the way it schedules matches over the Christmas period to give teams equal time to recover. Chelsea, which faced the Wolves at Molineux on Christmas Eve, will host Crystal Palace three days later.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, played its last match on Dec. 21 against Brighton.
The problem is the difference between the teams, Pochettino said. If we all play on the 24th or we all play on the 27th, we are in the same circumstance.
But the problem is that one plays (on the 21st) another on the 27th. That is a big disadvantage or advantage. But I don’t complain. The problem is to organize the situation better, because it’s not fair. It’s not to make an excuse, not to open the umbrella before the rain. But come on, it’s a fact. It’s the reality.
Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling collected bookings at Molineux that mean a one-match suspension. The upshot is Pochettino might be without up to 11 senior players, although a full-debut for Nkunku possibly awaits.
A 2-1 defeat at Wolves on Christmas Eve left the Blues in the bottom half of the Premier League and they have been overtaken by Bournemouth, a team who were in the relegation zone last month.
Palace have also been struggling. While the Eagles did earn a decent point with a 1-1 draw against rivals Brighton last time out, it is now seven games without a win and they are now just three points off the bottom three.
The west Londoners failed to make their chances pay in the first half at Molineux with Raheem Sterling squandering a huge opportunity before Wolves went 2-0 ahead. There was one positive with Christopher Nkunku netting his first competitive goal for the club since his £52million move from RB Leipzig.
Victory for Chelsea will see them overtake AFC Bournemouth in tenth place after their 3-0 win over Fulham. The Blues will be looking to end a disastrous 2023 with maximum points with two kind fixtures, though Palace will be hoping to cause an upset to provide them with a buffer over the relegation zone.
